League recap: Bayfield tops Coal Ridge to extend winning streak

Bayfield extended the longest winning streak in 2A Western this week by beating Coal Ridge, 42-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Wolverines.

Aspen led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Gunnison. Dan Schwartz ran for 117 yards in the win.

Grand Valley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Scott threw for 161 and four touchdowns and Stephan Padilla had 82 yards receiving. On the ground Tanner Zimmerman chipped in 298 yards. Ivan Arizaga helped Grand Valley's passing attack out by catching one ball for 55 yards.

Kerry Reynolds made the biggest impact on defense this week as Basalt topped Olathe. The senior racked up 1.5 sacks.

Thanks to the talents of Scott and Zimmerman the Cardinals have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Scott leads the league in passing with 687 yards, while Zimmerman has rushed for 764 yards this season. The Longhorns' Andrade Josh leads the league in receiving yards with 297 on 16 catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Titans take on the Skiers. At the moment, Coal Ridge is in fourth, while Aspen is in third.

Bayfield made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,577 from 4,351. The advance stemmed from a 42-0 victory over Kyle Sager's team last week.
