Softball Recap: Olean Wins Going Away Against Dunkirk

Olean won the last time they faced Dunkirk and things went their way on Thursday too. The Huskies put the hurt on the Marauders with a sharp 15-3 win. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.

Tiana Maine spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, Amelia Jones and Ari Finch did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles, while Finch went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mallory Carter, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Olean kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Olean has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Dunkirk, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Olean will head out to face off against Randolph at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Dunkirk, they will venture away from home to take on Jamestown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
