Basketball Game Preview: Northridge Grizzlies vs. Platte Valley Broncos

The Northridge Grizzlies will head out on the road to challenge the Platte Valley Broncos at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northridge will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Northridge and Timnath faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Wednesday. Northridge took a blow against Timnath, falling 81-28. The Grizzlies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-12.

Despite their defeat, Northridge saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Anthony Mendiola, who posted eight points, was perhaps the best of all.

Meanwhile, Platte Valley came up short against SkyView Academy on Tuesday and fell 45-33.

Like Northridge, Platte Valley lost despite seeing results from several players. Rocco Minner led the charge by putting up 11 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Minner a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Regan Edstrom, who put up 11 points and five rebounds.

Platte Valley now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Northridge, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northridge has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 20 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Platte Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Northridge and Platte Valley were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January of 2020, but Northridge came up empty-handed after a 58-57 defeat. Thankfully for Northridge, Tyler Uyemura (who went 6 of 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to six boards and five assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
