Baseball Recap: North Fork Wins Going Away Against Wiggins

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but North Fork had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Wiggins Tigers with a sharp 7-1 win. The Miners not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19th (when they won 11-5).

Mario Gama made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has become a key player for North Fork: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise. Gama was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Gama wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Konnor Crawford, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Those two hits gave Crawford a new career-high.

North Fork kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wiggins only managed four hits.

North Fork is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wiggins, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-13.

Coming up, North Fork will square off against Peyton at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Miners surely won't give up without a fight. Wiggins does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
