Softball Recap: Monticello Panthers vs. Goshen Central Gladiators
Monticello had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-8 to make it 11. They came up short against the Goshen Central Gladiators, falling 17-0. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Gladiators from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Monticello saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexandra Cushing, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
As for Goshen Central, their win bumped their record up to 6-2. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
On Goshen Central's side, Anna Mayo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mayo was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Goshen Central got a massive performance out of Sophia Springer, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Springer has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marley Northrup, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monticello will welcome Valley Central at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Goshen Central, they will challenge Roosevelt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
