Soccer Game Preview: Rock Ridge vs. Heritage

The Rock Ridge Phoenix will challenge the Heritage Pride at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Rock Ridge is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Dominion last Thursday. The Phoenix took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans. That's two games in a row now that Rock Ridge have lost by exactly two goals.

Amal Ramahi and Sophi Custard scored both of Rock Ridge's goals, bringing their combined season tally to four goals.

Meanwhile, Heritage fell victim to Freedom and their airtight defense last Tuesday. They lost 4-0 to the Eagles. While losing is never fun, Heritage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Freedom are ranked 27th).

This is the second loss in a row for Rock Ridge and nudges their season record down to 1-6. As for Heritage, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Rock Ridge might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Heritage when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Phoenix avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
