Football Recap: McComb Triumphs

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only McComb walked away with it. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 41-40 victory over the Leake Central Gators. The win almost wasn't to be: the Tigers were down 28-13 in the second quarter.

McComb's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Broderick Peters, who rushed for 42 yards and one score, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Peters was even better on defense, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to McComb's defensive line and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Cameron Hackett, Peters, and Anthony Tow Truck Alexander, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Leake Central's side was Hackett, who picked up a sack, made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

Leake Central's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ty'Lan Fortune, who picked up 177 receiving yards and one TD, and Javario Daley, who rushed for 72 yards and one touchdown. Fortune's longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards. Israel Ross made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

The win was the fourth in a row for McComb, bringing their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.0 points over those games. As for Leake Central, they moved to 9-3 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

As of now, neither McComb nor the Gators have any future games scheduled.
