Basketball Preview: Fort Lee Bridgemen vs. Pompton Lakes Cardinals
Fort Lee has been on the road for three straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Pompton Lakes Cardinals at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Fort Lee ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They escaped with a win against Cliffside Park by the margin of a single free throw, 58-57. The win was all the more spectacular given Fort Lee's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while the Raiders are ranked 123rd).
Guy Vickers was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Jacob Greenberg was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pompton Lakes didn't have too much trouble with the Chiefs at home on Thursday as they won 66-48.
Fort Lee's win ended a 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-13. As for Pompton Lakes, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
