Softball Recap: Halifax County Comes Up Short

Halifax County had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 13-6 to make it four. They fell 5-2 to the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Comets couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Jefferson Forest, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

For Jefferson Forest's part, Amelia Long spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits. Long has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mati Gouldthorpe, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Kylie Hendricks was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Halifax County will face off against Bassett at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets are facing the Bengals at the right time seeing as the Bengals are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Jefferson Forest, they will challenge Brookville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
