The Ansonia Tigers will face off against the Union City Indians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Ansonia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Ansonia came out on top against Newton Local on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Tigers blew past the Indians 13-3. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.
Ansonia got a great performance from Bre Walker as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Addie Geyer and Miley Walls did most of the damage at the plate: Geyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles, while Walls went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Geyer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avalyn Locke, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Ansonia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 22 runs the game before, Union City was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against South Adams, falling 10-1. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Starfires recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Gabrielle Ordonez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.
The victory got Ansonia back to even at 8-8. As for Union City, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Ansonia's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Union City, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Ansonia continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Ansonia's way against Union City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Ansonia made off with a 9-1 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
