Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Gross Catholic couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They lost 6-0 to the Bennington Badgers on Wednesday. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Gross Catholic got a good showing from Mercer Dougherty, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Dougherty has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Gross Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Bennington, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-4 record this season.
