Softball Recap: Purchase Line's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Purchase Line had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 9-7 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the United Lions a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Red Dragons, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rylee Mahaffey was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Brooklynn Walker was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Lillian Stauffer also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

As for United, their defeat was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-17. Surprisingly, this marked their fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

On United's side, Bailey Pisarcik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Purchase Line will square off against rival Penns Manor at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Dragons 4.1, the Comets 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, United is set to take on their familiar foe Conemaugh Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
