Basketball Game Preview: North Edgecombe Warriors vs. Wilson Prep Tigers

The North Edgecombe Warriors will head out to face off against the Wilson Prep Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

If North Edgecombe beats Wilson Prep with 65 points on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. North Edgecombe snuck past Warren County with a 65-59 victory on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Jamauri Cannady went supernova for North Edgecombe, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave Cannady a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Isavius Arrington, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Wilson Prep faced off against Rocky Mount Prep on Tuesday. Wilson Prep strolled past Rocky Mount Prep with points to spare, taking the game 87-73. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Jaguars are ranked 473rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wilson Prep is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.6 points per game. As for North Edgecombe, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

North Edgecombe didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Wilson Prep in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 76-71 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Edgecombe since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
