Softball Game Preview: Monroe Central Golden Bears vs. Cowan Blackhawks

The Monroe Central Golden Bears will challenge the Cowan Blackhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe Central comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Monroe Central couldn't beat Yorktown on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Golden Bears came up short against the Tigers, falling 15-5. That's two games in a row now that the Golden Bears have lost by exactly ten runs.

Monroe Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aleiyah Davis, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. That RBI was Davis' first of the season. Another was Raegan Quattlebaum, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.

Cowan came out on top against Cambridge City Lincoln on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Blackhawks took their game against the Golden Eagles 6-2.

Savannah Bowling made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Candice Matson, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Bryleigh Hiatt was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cowan has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Monroe Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
