Softball Recap: Austin's Win Ends Seven-Game Losing Streak at Home

Austin's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over the Irvin Rockets. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ruby Salazar made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Austin got a massive performance out of Ayumi Ruben, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. That hit was Ruben's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aileen Montero, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Austin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvin struck out 11 times.

Austin's victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-15. As for Irvin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season.

Austin will head out to face off against Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Rangers have now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests. As for Irvin, they will host Ysleta at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
