Baseball Recap: Dyer County Comes Up Short

Dyer County had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 12-9-1 to make it four. They lost 8-2 to the Briarcrest Christian Saints. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Choctaws of the 4-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Briarcrest Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Briarcrest Christian's part, Phinn Waters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Waters has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Landon Rogers, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Caleb Cowles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Dyer County will welcome Kennett at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Briarcrest Christian, they will head out to challenge Marion at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
