Preview: Canyon View Jaguars vs. Verrado Vipers
Canyon View has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Verrado Vipers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Last Thursday, Canyon View was the victim of a rough 35-12 defeat at the hands of Desert Edge. While losing is never fun, Canyon View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Desert Edge is ranked tenth).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Beau Devens, who threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Verrado's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their third straight loss. They lost to Millennium on the road by a decisive 24-10 margin. The contest was a 3-3 toss-up at halftime, but Verrado was blown out by Millennium in the second.
Despite the loss, Verrado got a solid performance out of Jhayden Frye, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Canyon View has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Verrado, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5.
Canyon View lost to Verrado on the road by a decisive 35-21 margin in their previous meeting back in September of 2022. Can Canyon View avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
