Softball Game Preview: Truckee Wolverines vs. Shasta Wolves

The Truckee Wolverines will take on the Shasta Wolves in a tournament on Saturday. Truckee has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Truckee saw some tournament action on Friday. They came up short against Chico, falling 14-6. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jessie Borzello made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Ellyse Hutchins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Shasta came out on top against Lassen on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Wolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the Grizzlies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since March 28th.

The team relied heavily on Isla Lynch, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Soleil Waterman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Shasta is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Truckee, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Shasta's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Truckee has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. It's a different story for Shasta, though, as they've only averaged .354.
