Brooklyn is 2-8 against Independence since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Hurricanes will host the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Brooklyn came up short against Cuyahoga Heights and fell 8-3.
Brooklyn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Riccardi, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Independence waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Longhorns 10-4. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Kaden Schuette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Anderson Jolliffe was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Josh Gray, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April.
Brooklyn's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brooklyn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Brooklyn might still be hurting after the 19-2 defeat they got from Independence in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Will the Hurricanes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
