Softball Recap: Sunnyside Comes Up Short

Sunnyside extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-12 in the process. They came up short against the Sanger West Hornets, falling 16-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 8-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Sunnyside saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raeyah Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Sanger West, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-11-2. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six games by nine runs or more so far this season.

On Sanger West's side, they got a big performance out of Alyssa Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Hernandez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Flores, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Sunnyside has already played their next matchup, a 9-3 loss against McLane on the 6th. As for Sanger West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-0 victory against Justin Garza on the 5th.
