Baseball Game Preview: Bluffton Tigers vs. Taylor Titans

The Bluffton Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Taylor Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bluffton has three straight wins, Taylor has 19 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Bluffton proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 19) and last Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Jay County, sneaking past 7-6.

Bluffton's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Abram Gehrett, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those four hits gave Gehrett a new career-high. Trevor Smith was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Taylor lost 10-4 to Delphi Community on Thursday.

Taylor's loss dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Bluffton, their win bumped their record up to 14-6.

Taylor's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Bluffton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Taylor, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Bluffton keep running through batters, or will the Titans buck the trend?

Bluffton took their victory against Taylor when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 17-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
