Volleyball Recap: Holy Cross Takes a Loss

After flying high against Waterbury Career Academy last Saturday, Holy Cross came back down to earth. The Holy Cross Crusaders came up short against the Woodland Regional Hawks on Monday, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture last Monday.

The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-17.

Mari Berardis paced Holy Cross' offense, picking up seven kills. Berardis got some help from Reese Mcgarrity and her 14 assists. Finally, Berardis was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Sophia Ligi was the offensive standout of the game as she had ten digs.

Holy Cross' defeat dropped their record down to 14-7-1. As for Woodland Regional, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-3-1.

After both having extra time off, Holy Cross and Housatonic-Lakeview will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Holy Cross will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Woodland Regional does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
