Recap: Clemens Buffaloes vs. San Marcos Rattlers

The Clemens Buffaloes suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by San Marcos 81-49. While losing is never fun, Clemens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while San Marcos is ranked 104th).

When it comes to explaining why Clemens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Atiana Cook. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with five steals. Cook is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Duda Igiehon, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and six steals.

Clemens struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as San Marcos racked up 19 assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Marcos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Azariah Fennell, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ezra Tobias, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten assists.

Clemens are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-11. As for San Marcos, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clemens will take on Judson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Judson is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games. As for San Marcos, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Steele at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Steele is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
