Basketball Recap: Micah Spotts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brighton over Riverdale Ridge

Brighton lost against Riverdale Ridge back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Brighton Bulldogs took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverdale Ridge Ravens.

Brighton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Spotts, who posted 12 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Those six assists gave Spotts a new career-high. Brody Wadkins also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Brighton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Dylan Nieto, who earned 23 points along with six boards and five assists for Riverdale Ridge. The contest was Nieto's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Mestas, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Riverdale Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-8.

Brighton has already played their next game, a 70-41 victory against Northridge on the 18th. Riverdale Ridge has also already played their next matchup (against Boulder), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
