Recap: Awaken Christian Lions vs. GV Christian Guardians
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Needles, the Awaken Christian Lions were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against GV Christian by a score of 39-32. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Awaken Christian also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2023.
Awaken Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katelynn Montello, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. Montello is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoenix Sharp, who scored 17 points along with nine blocks and five rebounds.
Awaken Christian now has a winning record of 8-7. As for GV Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Awaken Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against American Heritage Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (American Heritage Academy is ranked 91st, while Awaken Christian is ranked 71st). GV Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face Laughlin at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Laughlin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Tuesday.
