Basketball Recap: Hitchcock County Falcons vs. Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves
If Hitchcock County was feeling good fresh off their 56-32 takedown of Cody-Kilgore last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hitchcock County Falcons took a 58-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves. That makes it the first time this season the Falcons have let down their home crowd.
Maywood/Hayes Center got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keenan Richards out in front who went 8 of 16 to rack up 16 points and seven boards. That's the most points Richards has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kade Broz, who had 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Hitchcock County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-7.
Hitchcock County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 61-46 victory against Arapahoe on the 8th. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they will head out on the road to square off against Ogallala at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Ogallala's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
