Baseball Recap: San Jose Takes a Loss

San Jose extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-17 in the process. They came up short against the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, with their most recent loss being a 19-2 defeat back in April.

As for Mt. Pleasant, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

For Mt. Pleasant's part, Michael Blanco was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Blanco has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Saldana, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Rolon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, San Jose will host Summit Tahoma at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.43 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. Mt. Pleasant does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
