Softball Recap: Oblong Victorious

Oblong's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Lawrenceville Indians. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Indians back in March, they had to take a 14-3 loss.

Zya Bricker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Norah Hoke was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Christy Ketner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Oblong kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Oblong's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Lawrenceville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.

Oblong and Lawrenceville are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against Grayville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bison have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.93 runs per game on average), something Oblong will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lawrenceville, they will square off against Dieterich at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
