Softball Recap: Oil City Drops Highest Score of Season Against Lakeview

Oil City blew Lakeview out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Lakeview got their revenge. The Oilers fell just short of the Sailors by a score of 16-14. On the bright side, the 14- run performance marked the Oilers' highest-scoring match to date.

Shalyn Whittemore put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ariana Griffin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. Ayla Hall also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Oil City's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Lakeview, they moved to 2-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Oil City has already played their next contest (against Franklin), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Lakeview, they will venture away from home to take on Keystone at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
