Softball Recap: Union Academy's Undefeated Season over After 22 Games

After flying high against South Stanly two weeks ago, Union Academy came back down to earth. The Cardinals fell just short of the Rowdy Rebel Bulls by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rowdy Rebel Bulls earlier this season, when they won 9-0.

Avery Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Union Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlie Granger, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Another was Paige Quinn, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Union Academy fell to 21-1. As for South Stanly, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-12.

As of now, neither Union Academy nor the Rowdy Rebel Bulls have any future games scheduled.
