They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Eagles. Nine seems to be a good number for the Lions as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Not much got past Leah Shappell, who gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Columbia City off the board. Shappell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Leo let Ella Moore and Sara Hoeppner run wild. Moore went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Hoeppner went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Hoeppner has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Malina Lape, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Leo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.
Leo pushed their record up to 22-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Leo struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
