Baseball Recap: Thornton Comes Up Short

Thornton extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-12. They came up short against the Adams City Eagles, falling 15-0. The shutout was out of character for the Trojans seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

As for Adams City, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

For Adams City's part, Christian Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Ramirez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Adams City is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. Ramirez was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mauro Acosta and Yojainer Alcorta did most of the damage at the plate: Acosta got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base, while Alcorta went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Alcorta a new career-high. Marcos LaCrue also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thornton will head out to challenge Skyview at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Adams City, they will venture away from home to take on Arvada at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.18 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
