Baseball Game Preview: Hightstown Rams vs. Ewing Blue Devils

The Hightstown Rams will face off against the Ewing Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hightstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Hightstown came out on top against South Brunswick on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Rams blew past the Vikings 7-1. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Hightstown got a big performance out of Anthony Benitez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Benitez has posted since back in March. Michael Guarino was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Ewing couldn't beat Hamilton on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Blue Devils lost 15-7 to the Hornets. Blue Devils fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Hornets since on Tuesday.

Sam Liebowitz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Andreas, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

Hightstown's victory bumped their record up to 14-3-1. As for Ewing, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

Ewing's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Hightstown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ewing, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Hightstown keep running through batters, or will the Blue Devils buck the trend?

Hightstown skirted past Ewing 6-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
