Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Sam Gulaid and Tucker Peay Lead Head-Royce to Victory

The Head-Royce Jayhawks didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Leadership on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 77-73 victory. Given the Jayhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 436th, while Leadership are ranked 898th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Head-Royce to victory were Tucker Peay and Sam Gulaid. Peay dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Gulaid dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. The contest was Peay's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Taubes, who posted ten points.

Head-Royce was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Leadership players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isaiah Maghanoy, who put up 20 points. Another player making a difference was Justin Lazaro, who had 15 points.

The win got Head-Royce back to even at 9-9. As for Leadership, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.

Head-Royce didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-50 loss against Bentley on the 21st. As for Leadership, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 81-29 victory against Lighthouse Community on the 20th.
