Basketball Recap: Coral Glades Comes Up Short

Coral Glades saw some tournament action on Saturday. The game between them and the Miami Country Day Spartans didn't end well, with the Coral Glades Jaguars falling 75-61.

Despite the loss, Coral Glades saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gavin Reed went 6 of 9 on his way to 20 points and five assists. Reed's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Theophile, who posted six points along with 13 rebounds and six assists.

Even though they lost, Coral Glades smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Miami Country Day only pulled down seven offensive boards.

Miami Country Day's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chaim Galbut, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. Fernando Romero was another key player, going 6 of 7 on his way to 19 points and five assists.

Coral Glades' defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Miami Country Day, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Coral Glades and Miami Country Day should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Coral Glades (ranked 42nd) will meet Cooper City (ranked 285th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coral Glades is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.1 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Miami Country Day (ranked 14th) will meet Archbishop McCarthy (ranked 216th) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
