Football Recap: Slocomb Red Tops vs. Houston County Lions
Slocomb had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Houston County Lions by a score of 39-30.
Hayes Hatton had a dynamite game for Slocomb, rushing for 191 yards and three touchdowns, while also picking up 38 receiving yards and a touchdown. Cade Birge was another key player, throwing for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Slocomb was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 227 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Slocomb's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Luke Goodman and Khilan Adderly. Adderly's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making a tackle and defending a pass in addition to snagging an interception.
Slocomb will be playing in front of their home fans against New Brockton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Houston County, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Ariton at 7:00 p.m. on September 6th.
