Softball Recap: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Elk Grove Thundering Herd
Monterey Trail had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-15 to make it five. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elk Grove Thundering Herd. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thundering Herd this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on April 4th.
Monterey Trail saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dakota Bumbaca, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Elk Grove, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.
On Elk Grove's side, Brooklyn Landrum was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Ryann Wolfe was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Monterey Trail will take on rival Cosumnes Oaks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Elk Grove is set to face off against their familiar foe Laguna Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
