Softball Recap: Monroe Catholic Wins High-Profile Game Against North Pole

Monroe Catholic faced North Pole in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Rams walked away with a 7-4 win over the Patriots. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Anya Chernich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Monroe Catholic let Chloe Maring and Myana Rojas run wild. Maring went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Rojas went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 7-5. As for North Pole, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-19.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Monroe Catholic beat the Patriots by a score of 11-7 later that day.
