Baseball Recap: St. Petersburg Beats Lakewood for Their Fourth Straight Win

St. Petersburg came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Lakewood Spartans 13-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-8 back in February.

Owen Landers looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, St. Petersburg let Brody Nelson and David Di Angelo run wild. Nelson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Di Angelo scored three runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most hits Nelson has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Garett Perdek, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

St. Petersburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.6.

St. Petersburg's victory bumped their record up to 7-9-1. As for Lakewood, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, St. Petersburg will host Pinellas Park at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Pinellas Park has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Lakewood, they will venture away from home to square off against Boca Ciega at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lakewood is facing Boca Ciega at the right time seeing as Boca Ciega is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
