Otay Ranch is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Mater Dei Catholic is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mustangs will welcome the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Otay Ranch's victory against Eastlake wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Titans on Friday.

Scarlett Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Otay Ranch saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Melania Contreras, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mater Dei Catholic narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Eastlake 4-2. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Arri Romero made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Romero was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Harris, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lilia Alpuche, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Mater Dei Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in eight consecutive matchups.
Otay Ranch is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.
Otay Ranch couldn't quite finish off Mater Dei Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
