Softball Recap: Salinas' Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

Salinas dropped their record down to 16-7 on Saturday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Willow Glen Rams by a score of 2-1. The Cowboys were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Abi Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Salinas saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gigi Rossi, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Willow Glen, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 23-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average this season.

On Willow Glen's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Alanna Clincy gave up only one earned run on two hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Haley Ocumen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Coming up, Salinas will venture away from home to take on Monterey at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Willow Glen, they will host Leland at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.54 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
