Basketball Recap: Greene Central Rams vs. Ayden - Grifton Chargers
Even though the Ayden - Grifton Chargers scored an imposing 67 points on Friday, the Greene Central Rams still came out on top. Greene Central took their matchup against the Chargers 76-67. That's another feather in the cap for Greene Central, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Greene Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jalin Sutton, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Sutton scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Denelly Coppedge, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Ayden - Grifton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiha Crandell, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Hatteras Jenkins was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Ayden - Grifton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Greene Central pulled down 19 offensive rebounds.
Greene Central is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. As for Ayden - Grifton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.
Greene Central is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Pam Pack at 7:15 p.m. on February 6th. Washington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Rams in North Carolina (the Pam Pack are ranked 123rd, while the Rams are ranked 308th). As for Ayden - Grifton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Pitt has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5.
