Basketball Game Preview: Belen Eagles vs. Highland Hornets

Belen hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Belen Eagles will challenge the Highland Hornets at 7:00 p.m.

Belen is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against St. Pius X, falling 46-22.

Meanwhile, Highland earned a 48-39 win over Del Norte on Wednesday.

Belen better keep an eye on Rebecca Neal. She was instrumental in Highland's win, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Neal has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Ava Cordova was another key player, going 5 for 12 on her way to 18 points.

Highland's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Belen, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Belen came up short against Highland when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 53-47. Can Belen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
