Football Game Preview: Shallowater Mustangs vs. Pecos Eagles + How To Watch

Shallowater is a perfect 3-0 against Pecos since October of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Shallowater is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 52-20 victory over Canadian. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-7.

It was another big night for Cooper Martin, who threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 74 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. What's more, he racked up 147.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Maddox McDonald was Martin's top target, picking up 92 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, Pecos hadn't done well against Monahans recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Eagles managed a 20-14 win over the Loboes.

Pecos found their leader in sophomore Amare Griffin, who rushed for 135 yards and a pair of TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pecos was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 321 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

The victory got Pecos back to even at 3-3. As for Shallowater, the win also got them back to even at 3-3.

Everything came up roses for Shallowater against Pecos when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 57-6 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
