Softball Recap: Mercy Comes Up Short

Mercy extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 9-11 in the process. They lost 11-0 to the Notre Dame Tigers. If the Bears were looking for revenge after losing 7-4 to the Tigers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Notre Dame, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-3-1. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Notre Dame's part, Allison Lui made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lui has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Eliana Crespin and Hailey Truong did most of the damage at the plate: Crespin went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Truong got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Truong has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Stella Hird, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Mercy will look to defend their home field on Friday against Notre Dame at 4:00 p.m. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Regents have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Notre Dame, they will face off against Mills at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
