The Hillcrest Huskies will face off against the Cottonwood Colts at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hillcrest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Hillcrest made easy work of Corner Canyon and carried off a 7-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won three in a row.
Lila Vawdrey and Adrie Sullivan did most of the damage at the plate: Vawdrey scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Sullivan scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Sullivan a new career-high in RBI (three). Skylynn Salazar Bell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Hillcrest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Cottonwood was a bit more limited in their match on Monday. They lost 16-1 to Tooele. The defeat continues a trend for the Colts in their meetings with the Buffaloes: they've now lost seven in a row.
Samantha Rodriguez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one RBI. Those doubles were her first of the season.
Cottonwood now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Hillcrest, their win bumped their record up to 4-8.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hillcrest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Cottonwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hillcrest took their victory against Cottonwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 19-3. Does Hillcrest have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cottonwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
