Lincoln-Way East has gone a perfect 3-0 against Wilmington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Lincoln-Way East will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Wilmington at 4:30 p.m. Lincoln-Way East will be strutting in after a win while Wilmington will be coming in after a loss.
While Lincoln-Way East's victory against Yorkville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lincoln-Way East won by a run and slipped past Yorkville 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Griffins have posted since May 11, 2024.
Casey Mikrut was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Mikrut was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Jacob Baud and Jack Tamer dominated on the mound. Baud tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Tamer tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Baud a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
Back at the plate, Lincoln-Way East saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Riiff, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Wilmington challenged Joliet West on Tuesday. Wilmington fell just short of Joliet West by a score of 5-3. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Lucas Rink was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Declan Moran also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Lincoln-Way East has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs this season. As for Wilmington, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Lincoln-Way East took their win against Wilmington in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 11-2. Will Lincoln-Way East repeat their success, or does Wilmington has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
