Baseball Game Preview: Pittston Patriots vs. Abington Heights Comets

Pittston has won ten straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Abington Heights has won ten straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. Pittston will host Abington Heights at 4:15 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.

Pittston's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on East Stroudsburg North with a sharp 15-0 win.

TJ Johnson looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk).

At the plate, Silvio Giardina was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Jake Aftewicz was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.

Pittston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Stroudsburg North only posted an OBP of .100.

Meanwhile, Abington Heights made easy work of Riverside on Friday and carried off an 8-1 victory. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Abington Heights let Thomas LaCoe and Reese Zalewski run wild. LaCoe scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Zalewski scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs LaCoe has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Harshal Patel, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Pittston's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Abington Heights, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Pittston took their victory against Abington Heights when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Will Pittston repeat their success, or does Abington Heights has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
