Softball Recap: Wilmington Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Wilmington won the last time they faced Herscher and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by ten runs or more this season.

Lexi Strohm spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Taylor Stefancic was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Allgood, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Stefancic wasn't the only one making solid contact: Wilmington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Wilmington pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Herscher, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4.

When Wilmington and Herscher next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Wildcats will challenge Seneca and their 12-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wilmington 3.4, the Fighting Irish 0.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Herscher will try to stop Pontiac's three-game winning streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
