1. Lewiston
2013-14 record: 21-4, Class 5A semifinalist
Coach: Pat Teichmer

It doesn't get much more heartbreaking than it did for the Bengals in last year's 5A semifinal loss to Rocky Mountain. Lewiston led by 17 at one point in the game, and watched a four-point lead slip away in the final 22 seconds. That will certainly serve as motivation for Teichmer's squad this season, and with the return of all-state forward Emilee Schlader (6-0, Sr.) — who averaged 12 points, six rebounds and three steals per game — the Bengals might just get revenge.

2. Coeur d'Alene
2013-14 record: 23-2, Class 5A champion
Coach: Dale Poffenroth

The Vikings won their ninth state title last year, tying the program for the most in state girls basketball history, and they will be looking for double-digits this season. Poffenroth loses all five starters, including 5A Player of the Year Sydney Williams and all-state guard Madison Sumner, but don't expect too much of a dropoff for a proud and storied program.

3. Mountain View (Meridian)
2013-14 record: 18-6, Class 5A semifinalist
Coach: Connie Skogrand

The Mavericks lost to eventual champion Coeur d'Alene in the 5A semis, but the future is bright for Skogrand's squad. That's largely due to the return of all-state guard Destiny Slocum, who averaged 22 points, four rebounds, 3.6 assists and three steals per game last season as a sophomore. With Slocum at the helm, the Mavericks might have enough to take the title.

4. Twin Falls
2013-14 record: 23-3, lost in 4A final
Coach: Nancy Jones

The Bruins ran into a buzzsaw in Skyview and the 4A Player of the Year Leah Bonner in last year's title game, but Jones' squad will be ready to get its revenge this season. Twin Falls loses all-state guard Kaitlyn Merritt, but returns another all-stater, 5-foot-7 guard Regan Harr, who scored 12 points in the title game.

5. Hillcrest (Idaho Falls)
2013-14 record: 20-5
Coach: Cody Jackson

The Knights lost to eventual champion Coeur d'Alene in the opening round of the playoffs, but don't be fooled — this team is a title contender in 2014-15. Jackson's squad will be led by all-state guard Makell Skidmore (5-6, Sr.), who scored 13 points in the season-ending loss, and junior Lindsay Cook.
